[ Steve picks up immediately. ]

I don't know, he's not making a lot of sense. I think his latest assignment's eating him up, but it's not the root cause. I think he's been feeling a little alone without the team.

[ And mentioned some worrying things that he doesn't want to repeat to Jan because it's Tony's private business. ]

Do me a favor and don't tell him I said anything to you. Please.

[Jan sighs, a concerned and understanding sound. She's been through this before.]

I won't. Promise. He uh...he tends to bottle these things up until the dam breaks. Must've been especially hard here all those years on his own. [Without the team]

[ He'd figured, but thought he'd play it safe anyway because he still doesn't know what it was like on their team. ]

Yeah. I think that's just it. He, um...

[ He doesn't want to say mentioned that he feels like nobody actually likes him, but he's wrong because Jan seems to like him a great deal, which he'd mentioned. ]

He's just not in a good way. I'm sorry, Jan. I don't think I got through to him, but maybe, together.

I can be persuasive. It takes a few tried to get through his thick skull some times. He's stubborn when it comes to taking care of himself.

[Not the first time one of them had had to talk the other down. Or...up, she supposed.]

[ He breathes a sigh of relief. Thank god. She understands. ]

Great. Thanks, Jan. I know I'm not the right Steve for either of you, but, I really appreciate this. And I'll... I'm really gonna try my best.

[ Because apparently that Steve is the Steve that everyone needs. ]

Never met a Steve who wasn't a pretty swell guy. Don't worry Champ.
I'm glad you're looking out for him. And I'm sure he is too.

Well, he will be once he's thinking properly again. Don't think he's slept in a few days.

But he'll listen to you. I know it. Even in all his ranting, he mad sure to tell me that you were the glue that keeps everyone together, that I'd miss you if I got sent home, and wonder how I'd ever gotten anything done.

That's not all that unusual for him, unfortunately. But it's definitely not helping things if he's in a low place.

He said all that? The little flatterer. You and me still need to catch up. Once we're sure Tony's a little more stable we'll see about becoming fast friends.

I'm looking forward to it, Jan. And yes, he did. The guy loves you, and I know the feeling's mutual, so, you're the best bet. Just... I don't know if he'll want you to see him.

[ Steve drops off a gift for Jan, packaged roughly, labeled To Jan, From Steve. It contains a foot-tall statue made of The Wasp, in mid-air, comprised entirely of metal pieces. Steve has taken great care to craft her so that it almost seems impossible how she's standing up. Her wings are made of filligree, which give them a transparent look. ]
