End Game Update

Hello to you wonderful players of The Revival Project from Mod Churby. I come to you now being honest with myself and with a heavy heart. A few months ago there was an announcement regarding the pending end game of The Revival Project. At the time, the sentiment was in the right place and my aspirations were pretty serious as to what I could provide you. Since then there have been some very serious changes in my life and in my health that have caused me to come back to you with my hat in hand.

The simple truth of the matter is that I am no longer capable of providing the originally intended end game that I previously spoke on. Matters with my health are getting more complicated and more draining on a daily basis. Balancing my health needs versus that of this game has become more and more difficult. Truly, when I spoke to you last, it was absolutely my intention to take this game through the end of next year.

That time frame is not one that I believe I can fulfill at this point. For this I am quite sorry.

As such, I come to you now in hopes that I can try and figure out something that can provide something resembling a good conclusion for us. That said, I also need to be honest with the fact that, things could change further from here on. I could have a point where I just need to stop entirely.

So here is what I am proposing. As a result of the current October event players will get the information needed to find the original Agrii home world. How we want to handle this from there will be up to you as players and common consensus. My tentative goal would be to complete this game and move it into sandbox mode after December.

I am trying to work on a rough idea of how to wrap the game up in that much space. But I will also take player input on this. You will find below a comment that will allow you to reply in a screened manner so that you can share your thoughts privately. It could be that in reading this a lot of our players will decide they don't want to drag this out and will ask for the game to be closed earlier. It could be that someone will have a wonderful idea of how to help me provide you with a final hurrah and goodbye. I am very open to anything that you have to offer and if anyone wants to volunteer to help with closing this out, I will absolutely hear you out.

My very best guess adds to an approach that I would take if there was no player input would be to take the information that you get from October, go visit the planet in question in November, and then we turn to the Agrii for a closing event in December. From there, I could offer any remaining notes that we have of the direction that the plot was supposed to take, and players can play that through via sandbox mode or anything that they want. That's my general idea. I know it isn't the greatest, but, as I said, I am happy to take input.

If you have a character that was previously in the game that you wish to bring back for this end game please let me know. I am going to be waiving applications for this period of time and prior characters can return with just a nod and a request to join the main community. For bringing in a new character for the very end game, if you should choose to do that, the most I would ask for is just showing me that you have an account and a little bit of information about the characters background, just so that I have a concept of who it is.

I will note that if we come down to a place where other than me, there's only about two or three other players, I will end up closing the game early just due to lack of people to play with. I will do my best to play out any NPC needs as is required through the end game though, even if I have to neglect my own characters for it.

I Cannot even begin to tell you how sorry I am that it is coming to this point and that I will not be able to fulfill the end game that I promised you. I won't go into any details without them being specifically asked for by friends, but this really is the best thing that I can do for my physical and my mental health.

Once again, my deepest apologies and my hope that you will work with me going forward for the end of this game. And if that's not something you can do or you choose to leave, know that you do with all of the love of me and every person that has worked to bring you The Revival Project over the years. You are what makes this game great and is what made this a wonderful home for me.

Database maintenance

Good morning, afternoon, and evening!

We're doing some database and other light server maintenance this weekend (upgrading the version of MySQL we use in particular, but also probably doing some CDN work.)

I expect all of this to be pretty invisible except for some small "couple of minute" blips as we switch between machines, but there's a chance you will notice something untoward. I'll keep an eye on comments as per usual.

Ta for now!

AWS outage

DW is seeing some issues due to today's Amazon outage. For right now it looks like the site is loading, but it may be slow. Some of our processes like notifications and journal search don't appear to be running and can't be started due to rate limiting or capacity issues. DW could go down later if Amazon isn't able to improve things soon, but our services should return to normal when Amazon has cleared up the outage.

Edit: all services are running as of 16:12 CDT, but there is definitely still a backlog of notifications to get through.

Edit 2: and at 18:20 CDT everything's been running normally for about the last hour.

+ Treasure hunter/bounty hunter

Fang/Nack has returned! He's looking forward to this heist thing and he'll probably be on hand through the rest of the adventures.

I play him from a combo of IDW/game/headcanon, as I prefer just following the games but do like some of the way IDW fleshed him out. Plus, that's probably the most well-known characterization for him at this time. (We will not discuss the Archie version. No.) The main thing taken from IDW is his tendency to say "mook" and give everybody weird nicknames (unless he respects them enough not to do that). Please let me know if you would prefer him not to give a weird nickname to your character. (He may or may not anyway, depending on if I can think of anything good, lol.)

[During event: open]
[Not long after the ball begins, a map starts to appear on the network.

It's being drawn live, from what appears to be four different sources. In addition to the layout, locations of interest are pinned, often accompanied by notes, images, or even video. (Although sometimes, the image or video is poor and low in resolution - the pins note that some areas seem to have some kind of interference happening.)

The pinned locations include some of the cabinets, the treasures, the...spaces with creatures in them. And of course, the Byvillians. Their location is marked with a timestamp, with unarmed Byvilians marked as "Potential Hostiles" and armed ones as "Hostiles".]

[[ooc: This post can work for any IC wrangling / information sharing / whatever people want to do! Also, there's only four drones, so they're not going to be able to map everything - there's gonna be spaces with no data if your characters want to charge into the unknown.]]
